Experts called upon to give their opinion on the authenticity and the regularity of documents such as wills, receipts, checks, can be required to ascertain:
- The chronological order of the signing of two signatures overlapping each other
- The order of succession of the signature/printed characters (in areas of intersection between two graphisms)
- Whether the amount on a check has been altered
- Whether a will has been altered
- Whether a signature has been signed before or after the stamp, before or after a photocopied document
- The time sequence of the writing of handwritten graphisms on a document with respect to those present on the other side of the same sheet of paper
- If a passport, identity card, travel document, etc. has been tampered with
- If a stroke has been erased and a subsequent stroke placed over it to hide the previous one in order to modify the real content of the text
- If a correction/addition of text was made by using the same writing instrument (ink) and by the same hand that wrote the main body of the text (see change of date, or additions/correction of the text in a will)
- The date of a writing
- Whether the signature has been transferred to a document by a mechanical means (plotter, pantograph, etc.)
- Whether a typewritten text has been created by using an inkjet printer, a laser printer or if a photocopier
- The autograph of a signature based on the writing style of the signer by using a comparison test (three - dimensional) of the pressure modulation between the signature being examined and similar signatures (samples, etc.) written by the same individual.
